You and Yourn

Posted on Tuesday, June 2, 2009 in MUSIC: For better or for worse

yellow cupcakeAfter much deliberation, weighing all the pros and cons, we’re making the switch from ‘Casados’ to ‘You and Yourn.’ It all started in March with our housemate Zack, who regularly brainstorms band names, just for fun. One evening in our kitchen, he said casually, “What about You and Yours? Wouldn’t that be a great band name?” After consulting the World Wide Web, Zack reported that You and Yours is the name of a BBC talk radio show, so our friend Joel proposed a revision: You and Yourn. We liked the name and felt that it fit our current music, so we bought “rights” to it by promising Zack yellow cupcakes with chocolate frosting!

There were other considerations as well. For instance, Casados is pronounced incorrectly just as often as it is pronounced correctly; people may mistake us for a mariachi band; and our sound has evolved fairly significantly since our initial EP Passages, released under the name Casados. So with the new album, scheduled for national release on Parasol Records in Sept. 09, comes the new band name: You and Yourn. We like it, and we hope you do, too!

Our new website is still under construction, as you can probably tell, but it should be all put together in the next couple weeks. We’d like to offer huge thank yous to our sidekick Gillian Gabriel for the drawings and handwriting you see above and to our former bandmate Ian Kaufmann for building this website. Thanks for visiting, and check back soon!

Thanks, Raven! Nic still has to make those yellow cupcakes. They have been promised, but not actually made yet. The cake mix is sitting in our pantry :) .

Ben and Sarah, I miss you both! I was thinking the other day that it’s been about a year since you moved. We’ll probably be coming through PA end of Oct./beginning of Nov., so hopefully we’ll see you then!
